Aim: To serve as an introduction to geometrical metrology and machine testing with particular reference to manufacturing engineering and industrial production. To be the basis for understanding and being able to work with industrial problems, functional relationships, identification of measurement problems, theory, standards and norms, choise of measuring instruments and procedures, planning and undertakement of measurements, establishment of traceability, data analysis, uncertainty budgetting, data presentation, reporting, presentation, discussions
Contents: The course is taught over 13 full days, covering different topics in the field of geometrical metrology and machine testing. Each course day is devoted to a single topic, and structured to give a complete and lively coverage of the topic, on the basis of lectures, demonstrations, discussions, laboratory excercises, investigations, and presentations by the students.

The following programme outlines the contents: 1) Simple measuring instruments; 2) Measuring uncertainty and traceability; 3) Geometrical Product Specifications; 4) Surface metrology (measurement and quantification); 5) Surface metrology (verification and traceability); 6) Surface metrology (variability and functionality); 7) Coordinate metrology (measurements on CMMs); 8) Coordinate metrology (CMM calibration and verification); 9) Coordinate metrology (digitalisation and Reverse Engineering); 10) Measurement of roundness and cylindricity; 11) Optical metrology; 12) Machine testing (machine tools); 13) Machine testing (measuring machines).
