Department: Department of Hydrodynamics and Water Resources
Aim: To enable the students to: (a) analyze the hydrological components of a tropical area, (b) practice theory and processes in relation to the transformation of water in the root zone, (c) estimate the flux of water through the root zone and the water quality within the root zone.
Contents: Analyses of precipitation, evapotranspiration and runoff for an area in Tanzania. Calculation of the seasonal variation of the crop water requirements and irrigation water demand. Evaluation of the salt accumulation in the root zone (Analyses will be based on the utilization of computer-software developed by FAO - Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations). Water flow through the root zone as a function of soil type, crop type, irrigation schedule and growth conditions.
