Aim: To learn methods and procedures used in risk analysis and risk assessment of dangers in connection with chemical, biochemical and related facilities and learn about the design of risk management systems at required by the Seveso II directive of the EU and the US EPA's Risk Management Program
Contents: The course starts with a hort historical view on risk assessment and a short description of some of the major accidents in the chemical and biochemical industry.
Then the subject areas are: Accident statistics, acceptable risk, the nature of an accident, toxicity, legal requirements, MSDS, source models for discharge of liquids and gasses, disperson models and the influence of weather, fire and explosions, controlled releases.
Use of Dow's Fire & Explosion Index and Dow's Chemical Exposure Index in connection with plant layout. Towards the end an introduction to the Seveso II directive, and its meaning influence on safety management and safety communication.
During the course a design project is used as a case, on which the different tools, such as CSR, PHA, HAZOP will be used.
