36451 Phase Equilibrium Calculations
Danish title: Faseligevægte i ikke-ideale opløsninger
Language: English Credit points: 5
Type: Ph.D.-level, Open University
Language: English

Previous course: C3653
No credit points with: C3653
Prerequisite: 36250
Recommended semester: 6th semester
Scope and form: Lectures, problem discussions, seminars. ½ afternoon pr week with problem solving sessions in groups
Examination: Evaluation of report(s) (13-scale)
Remarks: This is an advanced course requiring the full and active participation of the students throughout the course. The course is of importance for students warning to do thesis work in the area of phase equilibria and separation processes.

Department: Department of Chemical Engineering
Aim: The goal of the course is to give the students a thorough description of new methods and theories, which can be used to calculate thermodynamic properties of non-ideal mixtures. The emphasis is on properties needed for the calculation of phases in equilibrium.
Contents: Computation of fugacities in gas and liquid mixtures using equations of sate (EOS). Models for excess properties in non-ideal liquid mixtures. Group-contribution models. Parameter estimation for EOS and liquid models. Thermodynamic consistency of vapor-liquid equilibrium data. Vapor-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-liquid and solid-liquid equilibria. Solutions of polymers and electrolytes. Computation of transport properties (viscosity, thermal conductivity, diffusivity).
