Contents: An engineer's ability to use tools effectively is vital in ensuring his or her productivity. In recent years, specifically mathematical tools have arisen which differ significantly from their purely numeric predecessors. MAPLE is an example of such a mathematics tool, which is capable of computing exactly and visualizing results. To be able to use any tool appropriately, one must have some knowledge of the materials it is made of and how they fit together. MAPLE combines concepts and structures from both mathematics and computer science. In this course, we will focus on the interplay of these aspects of MAPLE, the aim being to solve practical mathematical problems in a reliable manner. The course will begin with an introduction to some visualization techniques which ensure that what is shown makes mathematical sense, and then treat mathematically correct general solutions of linear systems and integration.
