Aim: The aim of the course is to give an introduction to synthetic carbohydrate chemistry. The main emphasis will be placed on synthetic methods involving monosaccharides. The topics are:
Structure, nomenclature, and preparation of
monosaccharides
Reactions at the anomeric center
Protecting groups and selective reactions of the
hydroxyl groups
Reactions of non-anomeric carbon atoms
