Aim: To give an introduction to the different Internet technologies, their development and regulation, and the application of these technoloies in different domains
Contents: The course will address the following themes:
The emergence and development of the Internet, its organization and regulation, e.g., the development of standards etc.
Basic Internet technologies such as HTTP, HTML, NNTP, MIME, VRML, browsers, CGI, search engines, etc.
Advanced Internet technologies such as Java applets and servlets, cascading style sheets, DHTML, XML, Active-X, WAP, etc.
Applications of internet technologies in areas such as electronic publishing, digital libraries, intranet/extranet, electronic commerce, public service, community support.
WWW as a platform for CSCW and Groupware, and the issue of convergence of technologies (mobile internet applications, digital TV).
